Karissa is an  International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), which is a member of the maternal-child healthcare team with specialized skills in breastfeeding care and lactation management. The IBCLC credential is the highest certification and the only internationally recognized credential in the field of lactation. Initial Lactation Consult

Our time together is spent  identifying your goals and needs, assessing areas of concern, and crafting a comprehensive care plan together. This meeting typically runs 90 minutes.  Topics may include:

How can a consult help me?

 Lactation consultations are customized to meet a client's needs. It is your time to discuss the topics you want to address. There are many reasons to see Karissa, here are a few: 

  • Assessment for painful latching

  • Identifying the Partner's role in lactation

Do you take insurance?

You are encouraged to check coverage with your insurance carrier prior to appointment. We accept Aetna, Cigna, Humana and BCBS .   If you are a member of Cigna or BCBC, in addition to requesting an appointment here, please submit your insurance info by visiting this site.  We also process payments from FSA/HSA  cards.  If we are out of network, we will provide a superbill that you can submit to insurance for a reimbursement request. 


How Should I Prepare For a Virtual Consult?

In an effort to keep our community and most vulnerable healthy, Second Nature Lactation has made the decision to offer a telehealth option to all clients. Karissa has the experience and technology to conduct consults using a secure telehealth system. This software was chosen to insure ease with our clients on nearly any device. How many consults will I need?

Initial consults are pretty darn comprehensive.. Usually one consult will get you moving in the right direction, and very often that is all that is necessary. Most insurance companies offer 3-5 consults at no cost and more can be requested if care is on going.
